Fragile | a poem

I have dabbled in writing poetry since high school. Unsurprisingly, most of what I wrote back then is pretty subpar stuff, and that's putting it mildly. But the poem below is one of the first poems I ever wrote that I think is actually decent when I look back on it today. I have decided to start posting more of my poetry on this site and perhaps it will inspire me to write more. This was written just days after the death of a very close family friend. He was a great man and it was an immensely sad time for me. I was in my late teens and looked up to him quite a bit. His death got me thinking about the fragility of human existence. James 4:14b came to my thoughts at the time, " For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. One Day in Aspen Creek, Audio Drama Series Coming Soon

As you know if you have been following my blog for the last year, I've been sharing lots of short-form audio content here. One of the micro audio dramas from early this year, "Another Year Older, Another Year Wiser" , really seemed to resonate with folks and I've had repeated requests for more stories in that world. It was never my intention to make that project a series, but after numerous people inquired about it, I decided to seriously think about how that might work. As part of the writing of that piece, I had developed a decent amount of backstory that never appeared in the actual audio drama but was there in the background shaping how the story took form. As I reviewed that material and mulled it all over, I felt that there was potential to revisit the setting of this small, midwest town and experience a little more of the slow life with Tom. Looking Back on 2024 Highlights

This post is going back to the roots of this site; it's more of a journal entry than original content. If that's not of interest to you, feel free to skip it and come back when I post my next creative project. But you're welcome to hang out as I recap some moments from the past year of 2024. On the whole, this past year was not a good one for me in my personal life. It was plagued by health issues, financial struggles, and many stress-filled, sleepless nights. The majority of those issues are still around as we move into 2025, but in an effort to "look on the bright side" or "find the silver lining" and have a more positive outlook, I wanted to go over some of the bright spots from last year. I am very much a data nerd so in addition to recapping some of those good moments, I want to catalog some of my media consumption highlights as well.
